Swagger Like Puff

Is it me or am I always talking about this ‘Swagger Like Us’ song. I think I am talking about it a l lot. More than the circus that is Young Money I think this song really captures where we are right now. It’s a good song from a musical, lyrical and songwriting standpoint. I think it is a bit of overkill. A T.I. song with Jay, ‘Ye and Weezy is like Daniel Snyder’s Washington Redskins back when he was handing out contracts to Deon Sanders and everyone else with 90+ rating on Madden.

The song is so clearly swinging for the fences that its perfection disappoints. But on the other hand, there is certainly nothing wrong with an All Star team. To mix metaphors, adding Randy Moss to Tom Brady’s Pats did produce an 18-win team.

But I digress. What I wanted to talk about was the remix with my man the P. Diddy Bop. Now, I have never been a fan of Puffy’s music but you cannot deny the hits he’s produced. Biggie, some Faith songs, some Total songs, etc. What I have always admired as an entrepreneur is his tenacity, longevity, and commitment. “10 years from now, we’ll still be on top.” You know what? He was right.

The addition of Puff to that ‘Swagger’ song was brilliant. Puffy is the original swagger rapper. The lack of pure lyricism (except for S Dot and T.I.P.) The focus on fashion and attitude IS Puffy. The suits, the metrosexual image IS Puffy.
The fact that he could stay relevant long enough for his turn to come around again is fascinating and praiseworthy.

So to Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs I say bravo to you sir.
