Brooklyn Bodega and The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival are looking for a Volunteer Coordinator and Marketing Manager. Both positions demand talented and motivated individuals who exhibit an above average level of dedication to the growth of both their personal/professional development and the progression of positive Hip-Hop music and culture.

Both positions are unpaid. College credit is available. These are great opportunities for a young person to get their foot in the music industry door or for an experienced person to explore a career change.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR/ Brooklyn Bodega
(Supervised by Senior Management)

Summary:

Acts as a gatekeeper for Brooklyn Bodega. Attracts, identifies and retains talent by assigning volunteers to appropriate positions based on their interests and skills. This position is one of the keystones, that by selecting the right force of Hip-Hop soldiers, determines the success of both Brooklyn Bodega and The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival.

Responsibilities:

• Recruit, interview, and select volunteers for all The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival Departments including Production, Marketing, Hospitality etc.
• Design and supervise the orientation and training of volunteers regarding Brooklyn Bodega’s philosophy, policy and practice
• Assign volunteers to jobs based on Brooklyn Bodega’s ongoing and evolving needs
• Assesses and monitors the program needs and develops appropriate volunteer activities and positions
• Maintains and monitors a record keeping system which includes services delivered and actual time involved
• Plans and conducts volunteer support meetings
• Plans and supervises delivery of all volunteer services
• Produces a Volunteer Coordinator Report that summarizes key tasks performed during the contract term and suggests improvements for the next festival
• Other assignments as may be appropriate

• Passion for Hip-Hop music and culture
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Able to pay attention to details as well as plan for the big picture
• Highly organized/ Above average multi-tasker
• Self motivated/ Able to work independently
• Work well with deadlines

- MARKETING MANAGER/ The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival
(Supervised by Senior Management)

Summary:

Acts as the internal and external champion for The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. Owns the strategy and life cycle of the pre-event and post-event marketing of the event, including day-of-festival activities. This key position is responsible for overseeing and enhancing a range of stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities:

• Identifies and creates unique ways to attract media coverage of the festival
• Manages key promotions with media, affiliated organizations and sponsors
• Oversees and coordinates distribution of marketing collateral
• Supports event through effective copywriting, proof-reading and editing
• Monitors and catalogues media coverage leading up, during and following the festival
• Communicates with Friends of the Festival, Bodega Family and Press List
• Ensures effective and appropriate liaison(s) with graphic designer(s)
• Produces a Marketing Manager Report that summarizes key tasks performed during the contract term and suggests improvements for the next festival
• Other assignments as may be appropriate

Qualifications:

• Marketing and branding experience
• Ability to use of social networks/ new media
• Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and/or design experience (including HTML)
• Sales/Cold Calling/Biz Dev
• Passion for Hip-Hop music and culture
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Able to pay attention to details as well as plan for the big picture
• Highly organized/ Above average multi-tasker
• Self motivated/ Able to work independently
• Work well with deadlines
• Above average writing skills

JOB DETAILS

Term: February 1, 2010 – July 2nd, 2010

Hours will increase during April, May and June.

Compensation:
