Summer of 2009 highlights

As the summer comes to a close we got to thinking about some of the highlights. Please Add on:

1. The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival (of course). We shut the city down in the rain. Black Thought, Brand Nubian, Monch, Styles, Milk D. A dream come true

2. Big Daddy Kane in Prospect Park. Even though I had seen the classic version of BDK it was good to see the over 30 crowd mingling with the 25 and under Hip-Hop crowd. BDK is our Gap Band.

3. All Points West. The rain, the mud, and the lack of a tent was cold wack. I left a 1/4 way through Jay’s performance because of the drunk frat boys splashing mud on my adidas. However, Q-Tip’s performance was worth all of it. The Abstract Poetic ran through all the great new songs from ‘The Renaissance’, as well as classic Tribe joints. And he even through in some post jiggy gems from ‘Amplified’

4. Rock The Bells (in DC). I missed the NY show but from what I gather it was a much better gig than the Long Island gig. I had the honor of seeing a reunited Slum Village before the passing of the brother Baatin. I give thanks for that. Highlight #2 was Big Boi’s ‘Kryptonite’ live. Downside the soul crushing hangover from too much whiskey and cognac the night before.

5. The days without rain. They were few but we made the most of all of them.

6. The launch of Brooklyn Bodega Radio. I came in the game via radio and it was great to return. Shout out to PNC and A King.

7. The new office. May be smaller but the view of the river and other views are much better than the view of the office across Washington Street.

8. De La Soul at Nokia. I am not totally in love with the venue but I hadn’t seen De La in years. Thought it was gonna be all about 3 Feet High and Rising but they ran through al the classics. A great time indeed.

9. Show and Prove. We stumbled upon this great idea to give up and coming MC’s a chance and surprise, surprise it worked. We are gonna be breaking artists all year ’round.

10. All the lovely ladies who made the most of the sunny days see #5.
