October 20th "Show and Prove" this one is strictly for the ladies - CMJ 2009 Edition Brooklyn, NY September 10th, 2009 "Show and Prove" the bi-monthly showcase/competition produced by Brooklyn Bodega and YUME is preparing for their October installment. This time around the team is focusing on an often forgotten segment in Hip-Hop - the Ladies. The October "Show and Prove" is appropriately titled 'Something For The Ladies.' The Bodega and YUME are looking for female artists to remind people that you don't need a Y chromosome to rock the mic. "Following the success of the Show and Prove showcase/competition, I noticed the lack of a female presence on the stage, but recognized their strong presence in the crowd. It hit me that 'Show And Prove' is an obvious platform to show that Hip Hop is not gender struck. Without MC's like Rage, Bahamadia, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Rah Digga and so many more, Hip-Hop would not be what it is today. YUME and Brooklyn Bodega feel responsible to provide a launching point for emerging female MCs and artists who are so often overlooked." YUME Member Michael Peterson Brooklyn Bodega President, Wes Jackson added, "The Brooklyn Bodega and Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival staff is almost 90% female. Internally we have often commented on the odd gender discrepancy between those on stage and those back stage. As we continue to build the 'Show and Prove' brand we wanted to put in some special effort to make sure that up and coming female MC's are getting their shot." ------- Through Brooklyn Bodega's partnership with Forever Fresh the winner of 'Show and Prove' will open up at Southpaw on October 24th.
